Description

Based on a 14 year average complied by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there are over 6,301,000 vehicle crashes each year. Twenty-four percent of these crashes—approximately 1,511,000—are weather-related. Weather-related crashes are defined as those crashes that occur in adverse weather (i.e., rain, sleet, snow, and/or fog) or on slick pavement (i.e., wet pavement, snowy/slushy pavement, or icy pavement). On average, 7,130 people are killed and over 629,000 people are injured in weather-related crashes each year.

Upon completion of the learning event, the Learner will demonstrate the ability to identify hazardous driving conditions and methods for eliminating, minimizing, or avoiding those hazards. There are no training requirements specific to "hazardous driving conditions." This course would however, educate employees over the hazards that they might be expected to come across out on the road and covers various weather scenarios and climate conditions that make this appropriate for employers in any climate region. This course could be taught as part of an employer Driver Safety Program.
