Universal Waste Management
Consumers and businesses use and throw away thousands of tons of material every day. Over the years, the Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, has encouraged people in the United States to recycle plastic, paper, aluminum, cardboard and glass. To help reduce the amount of hazardous and toxic waste in landfills and the environment, the EPA has created the Universal Waste Regulation. Universal wastes include all types of batteries, pesticides, fluorescent lamps and certain devices like thermostats that contain mercury.
This course covers all standard training for universal waste management as stated in 40 CFR 273.16 and will cover the basics of the EPA’s Universal Waste regulation and what you can do to comply with it at work. When this course is finished, you should be able to identify items considered universal waste, recognize the basic principles of properly handling universal waste, and recognize emergency cleanup procedures in case of a universal waste spill.
