First Aid
The Bureau of Labor Statistics finds that in 2009, contact with objects and equipment was the leading event or exposure of nonfatal workplace injuries. Of those injuries 29 percent were cuts, lacerations or punctures. Twenty seven percent of the injuries involved a finger or fingernail. In the workplace, OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, requires employers to provide medical care for potentially injured employees. In the absence of a clinic or hospital, employers shall adequately train employees to render first aid. Regardless of whether you are at home or work, having first aid skills can help save a life.
Upon completion of this learning event, the learner will demonstrate knowledge of first aid procedures and how to apply them to real-world scenarios. Employees will learn their legal responsibilities as a first aid provider, how to identify different types of medical emergencies and the proper steps to take, and how to react in specific environmental conditions like extreme heat and cold. This course will fulfill the requirements outlined in 29 CFR 1910.151.
