Forklift Operator Training - Fundamentals

In the United States, 1,021 workers died from traumatic injuries in forklift related incidents from 1980 to 1994 according to The National Traumatic Occupational Fatalities Surveillance System. The case studies indicate that the forklift, the factory environment, and actions of the operator can all contribute to fatal incidents involving forklifts. It is against OSHA regulations that workers operate forklifts unless trained and licensed. OSHA’s requirements for forklift certification consist of formal instruction, practical training and evaluation.

This course meets the formal instruction requirements as outlined in 29 CFR 1910.178(l)(2)(ii) and covers the truck related topics listed in 1910.178(l)(3)(i). This should be a prerequisite before taking other FLO series courses. This forklift operator fundamentals course will expose the learner to all forklift safety procedures, and will also give them a chance to simulate operating a forklift. Upon completion of the learning event, the learner will display the ability to recognize the forklift’s instruments and controls, common hazards associated with forklift operation and OSHA-required safe work practices for forklift operation.
