Sewage, Waste Water and Water Line Maintenance Safety
The most common physical hazards experienced during construction and maintenance of sewage, wastewater, and water plants and lines are drowning, trench collapses, falls and confined space-related injuries. Drowning can happen during sudden bouts of rain or when materials are released during emergency events, and common fall hazards are manholes and floor openings. Sewer and manhole spaces are generally considered confined spaces. Confined spaces can carry particular hazards like low oxygen levels, toxic and explosive vapors, and flooding. Proper training is recommended in knowing how to handle workplace hazards.
