Construction Safety
According to OSHA, nearly 6.5 million people work at approximately 252,000 construction sites across the nation on any given day. The fatal injury rate for the construction industry is higher than the national average for all industries. Potential hazards for workers in the construction include: Falls, trench collapse, scaffold collapse, electric shock and arc flash, failure to use proper personal protective equipment and repetitive motion injuries.
Upon completion of this learning event, the learner will demonstrate knowledge of hazards and safe work practices on construction sites. Employees will learn how to recognize common construction site hazards, the use and importance of personal protective equipment, and how to identify safe housekeeping practices. This course describes some of the basic hazards that are encountered in the typical construction worksite. This course also describes how to control and prevent these hazards from causing harm. This can be used to meet 1926.21(b)(2) over general hazards and could be used to supplement training that would be required over workplace-specific hazards. This will not meet the training requirements for specific hazards set out in each subpart of this chapter.
