Office Safety
The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that contact with objects or equipment was a frequent event or exposure resulting in an occupational injury or illness and accounted for 24 percent of all non-fatal injury cases in 2010. In 2009, sprain, strain, and tear injuries accounted for 40 percent of total injury and illness cases requiring days away from work in all ownerships. Soreness and pain (including the back) accounted for 11 percent of total cases. Many people have the assumption that office work is safe but individuals may suffer injuries and illnesses such as musculoskeletal disorders, poor indoor air quality, carpal tunnel syndrome and damage to eyesight due to poor lighting and glares on computer monitors.
