Benzene Awareness
Benzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon that is produced by the burning of natural products. Benzene is used in the manufacturing of plastics, detergents, pesticides, and other chemicals. Research has shown benzene to be a carcinogen that may affect bone marrow and blood production after long term exposure. Short-term exposure to high levels of benzene can cause drowsiness, dizziness, unconsciousness, and death.
This benzene awareness course is designed to provide the learner with basic knowledge to understand the dangers of benzene in the workplace and how to avoid exposure. This course covers the topics of benzene awareness as specified in the Hazard Communication standard required as well as the training topics outlined in 1910.1028(j)(3)(iii)(A) and 1910.1028(j)(3)(iii)(B).
