Description

The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that there were 117 cases per 10,000 full time workers for non-fatal occupational injuries or illness in 2009. OSHA states that all incidents, whether a near miss or actual injury related event should be investigated. The purpose of this is to uncover hazards that were missed earlier or managed to slip out of the controls planned for them. OSHA defines that no one should investigate incidents without appropriate accident investigation training. While larger companies have highly-trained safety and health officers, many small businesses must recruit someone from within the company to implement programs and policies.

Upon completion of this learning event, the small business safety officer will demonstrate knowledge of incident investigations and their basic performance. Employees will learn when to perform an investigation, who should be involved, what to ask, who to ask, and the proper steps to meet the company’s goals. There a no specific OSHA training requirements on Incident Investigation, however, this course provides information to aid the employer in meeting OSHA Standard 29 CFR Subpart E. In addition to this course, the employer may be interested in the Performing Safety Audits, Job Safety Analysis, and Slips, Trips and Falls courses.
