Description

Industrial Ergonomics is the science of equipment design that maximizes production while reducing operator fatigue and discomfort. If your office or workplace is not designed with industrial ergonomics in mind, workers may be at risk of suffering from sprains, strains, soreness, and pain from working in awkward positions for an extended amount of time. Sprains, strains, and tears continue to dominate the Bureau of Labor Statistics records on occupational injury or illness. In 2009, sprain, strain, and tear injuries accounted for 40 percent of total injuries requiring days away from work. Soreness and pain accounted for 11 percent.

Upon completion of this learning event, employees will demonstrate knowledge of ergonomics in industrial settings to reduce injury. Employees will learn how to identify ergonomic risk factors, potential injuries, and methods to minimize or eliminate ergonomic hazards. The OSHA ergonomic standard 29 CFR 1910.900 has been removed. This course covers some of the training requirements that were outlined in the old standard such as the signs and symptoms of MSDs and reporting them, basic risk factors, and controls. This does not address job-specific hazards but it a great course that details the risks and controls of general ergonomic hazards and can be used to supplement workplace specific training.
