Fall Protection
In 2008, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that fatal work injuries involving falls decreased 20 percent in 2008 after a sharp increase in 2007. The US Department of Labor (DOL) lists falls as one of the leading causes of traumatic occupational death, accounting for eight percent of all occupational fatalities from trauma. OSHA mandated that fall protection must be provided at four feet for general industry and six feet for construction.
In this course, employees will learn about fall hazards, how to identify fall protection methods, and various safe work practices. This course fulfills some of the requirements of a training program as outlined in 29 CFR 1926.503. The fulfilled requirements include: nature of fall hazards in the work area, the use and operation of guardrail systems, personal fall arrest systems, and safety net systems. The course does not cover company specific monitoring systems or how to inspect equipment. This can be used to supplement company specific training and provide employees with a general knowledge of fall protection systems and fall hazards that exist in the workplace. Hands on training for Personal Fall Arrest Systems will need to be provided.
