Laser Safety Training

Lasers play a pivotal role in our lives. You'll find them in everything from CD players to dental drills to high-speed metal cutting machines to measuring systems. Tattoo removal, hair replacement, eye surgery -- they all use lasers. Lasers produce a single wavelength of light that is powerful enough to etch, weld and cut large pieces of steel or precise enough to ensure fine detailed work like eye surgery. Because of the strength of a laser beam, technicians are required to operate under certain guidelines when they do their work and they must adhere to certain standards set by the American National Standard Institute.

This course is a general overview of laser safety practices and how to determine and reduce the hazards associated with them. There are no specific training requirements from OSHA. Upon completion of the learning event, the Learner will know how to identify the principals of laser function and operation. Also identify the types of lasers, the hazards of working with or around them and the controls used to eliminate or minimize those hazards.
