OSHA requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce employee exposure to hazards when engineering and administrative controls are not feasible or effective in reducing these exposures to acceptable levels. This course addresses the hazards present; the selection, maintenance, and use of PPE; the training of employees; and monitoring of the program to ensure its ongoing effectiveness.

Upon completion of this learning event, employees will demonstrate knowledge of the need for PPE, define the concept of a hazard assessment, things to consider when choosing PPE, and the different types of PPE used to protect all parts of the body. This course covers the training required as mentioned in sections 1910.132(f)(1)(i) and 1910.132(f)(1)(ii). On top of this training, the employer should train the employee how to use the necessary PPE beforehand so they will know how it should fit, when it's worn, and how to clean and maintain it.
