Description

According to data collected by the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) program, fatal injuries in confined spaces fluctuated from a low of 81 in 1998 to a high of 100 in 2000 during the five-year period, averaging 92 fatalities per year. Oil and Gas employees may encounter confined spaces storage tanks, compartments of ships, process vessels, pits, reaction vessels, boilers, ventilation and exhaust ducts, tunnels, and pipelines.

Upon completion of the learning event, the learner will have displayed the ability to recognize hazards associated with confined space entry and identify OSHA’s associated required and recommended safe work practices. The course covers the training requirements as mentioned in section 1910.146(g). It also covers the definitions for confined spaces, how to identify a confined space, how to identify what constitutes a permit, and when to use PPE.

Target Audience
: This course is intended for all oil and gas industry employees who may work in or around confined spaces or will be required to participate in a permit-required confined space entry program.
