Lockout / Tagout Simulation: Pipeline
"Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)" refers to specific practices and procedures to safeguard employees from the unexpected startup of machinery and equipment, or the release of hazardous energy during service or maintenance activities. Compliance with OSHAs lockout/tagout standard prevents an estimated 120 fatalities and 50,000 injuries each year.
This course will simulate a lockout/tagout scenario with a gas compressor. This simulation is only a supplement to the OGS 17.0 course. The learner will have the opportunity to perform a group or solo lockout/tagout mission. In this mission the learner must shut down, lock and tag the pipeline for maintenance. Upon completion of the learning event, the learner will have displayed the ability to recognize the hazards of isolating pipeline equipment components for repair and how to safely do so using proper lockout/tagout techniques.
