SafetySkills Commits to HTML5 for Mobile Compatibility, Improved Functionality and 508 Compliance
As SafetySkills grows and evolves, customers have raised questions about when we would be able to include certain features into our course library, such as functionality on mobile devices, multiple language bundling and accessibility functions for learners with disabilities. SafetySkills is moving towards full implementation of these features and changes, with the help of a coding protocol known as HTML5.
When SafetySkills began creating courseware in 2007, Adobe’s Flash was the main way graphical content was displayed online, and most of our course catalog is in Flash format. However, Flash’s insistent drain on system resources and battery life led many tablet and phone manufacturers to phase out support for Flash as HTML5 became a reliable replacement.
SafetySkills is in the process of converting fully to HTML5: All of our new courses are created in native HTML5, and we plan to have our entire existing catalog converted to HTML5 by the end of 2015. Not only will this allow us to distribute our courses to learners on phones and tablets, it will allow us to bundle English and Spanish courses in the same file, create course tags to make it easier for learners to find the courses they need, and increase accessibility to learners that require screen readers or other assistive tools to receive training. For a more detailed explanation of the differences between HTML5 and Flash, and SafetySkills’ reasoning for undergoing these conversions, click here.
An Engaging Experience
SafetySkills online safety training courseware encompasses rich media animations, studio produced audio, dynamic Flash and 3D simulations designed not only to convey the subject matter, but to engage the learner.
Your learners won’t be able to go brain-dead, simply toggling through slides; rather they are continuously challenged throughout the course to solve puzzles, answer questions and interact with the training.
