Training Requirements
Who is required to receive training?
- All District of Columbia employees, officials, and any employees under the Mayor’s jurisdiction.
- All employees of businesses that employ tipped workers.
What must the training include?
For tipped employees: How to respond to, intervene in, and prevent sexual harassment by coworkers, management, and patrons.
How often is training required?
- For D.C. employees: Refresher course must be provided every 2 years.
- For tipped employees: Managers, owners, and operators must attend in-person training at least once every two years.
Is there a time requirement on the training?
No.

Employee Group | Training Requirements | Recommended SafetySkills Course(s) |
Supervisory Employees | Supervisors of tipped employees must receive in-person training every 2 years. Training recommended for all other supervisory employees. | Supervisors of tipped employees are advised to seek a qualified local training provider for in-person training. HRM-10.2 Sexual Harassment and Discrimination for Managers is recommended for all other supervisors. |
Non-Supervisory Employees | Tipped employees must receive training within 90 days of hire. Training recommended for all other employees. | HRM-17.2 Sexual Harassment and Discrimination for Employees is recommended for all employees. HRM-30.2 Sexual Harassment for Customer-Facing Positions is recommended as an add-on for tipped employees and other customer-facing positions (does not replace HRM-17; it is meant as an additional module). |
